DATANORM standard format for data exchange

DATANORM is a german standard format for the article information data exchange between manufacturers, retailers and the handicrafts. Basis are the descriptions of the DATANORM Working Group in collaboration with associations, manufacturers, dealers and software houses.

The DATANORM was first published in 1986. The format quickly becomes a popular service offered by the vendors in the installation- and building-handicraft. In the following years the DATANORM was used by an increasing number of industries and commercial areas.

The rapid development in communications technology has additional requirement to DATANORM and these were included in the subsequent versions. With the version 5 from the year 1999 the development was completed.

The DATANORM descriptions are only available in german on the books (Version 4 and 5) by the publisher "Krammer Verlag" in Düsseldorf, Germany.
